At the beginning of the season 2, Episode 1, we are introduced to two important things, Daniel Whitehall and the Obelisk/Diviner.
In Season 2, Episode 1, when SHIELD finally gets their hands on it, quite literally, we notice it basically sucks the life out of people it comes in contact with, and it has the same symbols on it that we have been seeing Garret and Coulson draw periodically, indicating a connection between what happened to them and the Diviner.
The term Diviner, given to us by Skyes father in Season 2, Episode 5, is a big clue to the future of not only this show, but the MCU in general. In Marvel Comics the Diviner is a device used by the Inhumans to hack computer systems and probably much more.
You can read about it at this link. Hence a big clue to the Inhumans being in the MCU in the future. That, coupled with Quicksilver being in Avengers: Age of Ultron, who ends up marrying an Inhuman, makes for strong evidence that the Inhumans are probably going to make an appearance, if they haven't already.
When Raina, and Skyes Father, manage to take the Diviner in Season 2, Episode 2, he tells her to touch it. When she does, instead of killing her it, "lets her live," as Skye's father indicates.
This tells us that she must be an Inhuman, as it is Inhuman technology. Regrettably Skye's father doesn't touch it, so we are not sure if it will have an effect on him or not.
Speaking of Skyes father, there are a couple of theories that I have come across that may indicate who he is. The first is that he is an Inhuman, as he desired the Diviner, and knew of its Inhuman title. Plus, as Skyes father he would share her DNA, and if she was receptive to the, most likely Kree GH-formula, the Kree being the Aliens who created the Inhumans, then it should hold true that the same is true for him, making him an Inhuman. A more direct theory that I found here, is that he is an Inhuman known as Maximus, the brother of Black Bolt, the leader of the Inhumans.
As you can see there is a somewhat striking resemblance.
The other theory that I read about here, says that Skyes father is Dr. Calvin Zabo, known as Mr. Hyde.
That would then make Skye, Daisy Johnson, his daughter, who also goes by the codename Quake.
As I found that there was no specific means by which Zabo came to create the serum that made him Mr. Hyde, in the comics, it could be construed in the MCU that perhaps his serum was based on the same type of formula designed with the GH325. This would then make he and his daughter part Kree, but not truly Inhuman. Just different. It would be a descent way of fusing the two theories into one.
Now, for the more speculative theories.
While digging around on the marvel wiki I came across something that was rather interesting. It came to me after I watched Season 2, Episode 4. At the beginning of the episode there are some priests looking at a painting that appears to be of the Madonna and Child, of which a few different renditions were painted by Leonardo DaVinci. Then one of the priest says that it dates to the early 1500's.
So, I did a little digging. Turns out that that's the same timeframe that Leonardo DaVinci did many of his paintings, such as the Mona Lisa and Madonna Litta. So, I thought, maybe in the MCU, it's one of his, that got lost or something. I decided to look up good ol' Leo on the Marvel Wiki and found that he is a fairly important character. In the 616 Universe, the main continuity of Marvel Comics, Leonardo DaVinci was a big player in the formation of Shield and Hydra. Sounds crazy right? Well, follow the links and see for yourself.
While reading about the Marvel Comics version of Leonardo I found out a lot of neat things. One was that there were initiatives put in place like the Avengers Initiative throughout human history. The most prominent of which was the Brotherhood of the Shield. This group changed members over time until Leonardo Davinci became a member, amongst other prominent minds of human history, such as Nostradamus, Sir Isaac Newton, and Galileo. One thing that I found out about him, that was rather interesting, was that he was a time traveler. Sounds weird right? Well, just go with it. I mean, if he is in the MCU and has the ability to time travel, maybe he went to that church, grabbed the painting, etched on the back of it, burned down the church, and put the painting back. This would be simply to make a statement to organizations such as SHIELD and HYDRA, and get them interested.
Before Hydra and Shield existed Leonardo DaVinci brought eleven people together to be a part of a group called The Great Wheel of the Zodiac.
These individuals were the eleven most experienced espionage leaders of the time. The members included Nick Fury, his brother Jake Fury, Dum Dum Dugan, John Garret, Daniel Whitehall, and Baron Von Strucker, who have all been given prominent, or introductory, roles in the MCU thus far. The other members were Cornelius Van Lunt, Thomas Davidson, Vasili Dassiev, Viktor Uvarov, and Shoji Soma. They were brought together to perform some very secretive missions that more than likely were for the defense of the planet. DaVinci told them that he would give them all technology that would help each of their individual agendas. They went looking for a power source, something at DaVinci's tomb, which turned out to be the basis for Life Model Decoy(LMD) technology, and a bunch of stasis pods. These pieces of technology, together, apparently allowed their controller the ability to amass superpowers as well as an army that could be sustained on the power source. Once the technologies were brought together, with the exception of the LMD tech, which Nick Fury kept for himself, both of the groups Russian members betrayed the others, and stole the other technology. In the midst of the chaos Nick Fury is shot in the eye.
Yes, in this continuity he is white, but I'm sure we can get past that...
This is why, i believe at least, in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, when the Captain is announcing his displeasure at Black Widow's secret mission saying, "Soldiers need to be able to trust one another," Nick fury says, "The last time I trusted someone, I lost an eye." This being a reference to trusting his fellow members of the Great Wheel of the Zodiac. As a result of the betrayal, the group fell apart and led to the creation of four organizations. SHIELD, HYDRA, Leviathan, and the Zodiac Cartel.
To me, there seems to be too many players in the MCU universe who took part in this story arc to have it not be a part of it in at least some slim way. Plus I have other evidence.
SHIELD and HYDRA are the two big players in the MCU right now, but we have also seen Zodiac in it as well. In the Marvel One-Shot: Agent Carter, she gets a message to go to a hideout used by Zodiac to get a serum, which I'm thinking is most definitely the Zodiac Virus.
So the Zodiac Cartel is in the MCU just not a big player...yet.
The only one that we haven't seen yet is Leviathan, but I'm thinking I have some slight evidence to suggest that they are around. For example in Season 1, Episode 4, Agent Ward, before we know he's HYDRA, goes to an installation in Belarus, where we see the strange writing, on the chalk board, for the first time.
Belarus, during WW2, was controlled by the Soviet Union, so, if Leviathan did exist at that point and had information regarding the unusual writing, they would have perhaps made an installation there.
If HYDRA, being represented by John Garret at this point, wanted that information, they would have to find a way to infiltrate it. So, they sent in a spy to retrieve it from Leviathan. Makes sense to me. I mean, it's never really revealed who HYDRA is trying to get the information from, at all. Under my theory, Garret knew that the leaders of Leviathan who served with him on the Great Wheel of the Zodiac, had technology retrieved upon their betrayal. Which could indicate that Leviathan has some of the answers that our agents are looking for, in regard to the alien writing.
Another theory I have regarding Agents of Shield is that Daniel Whitehall is not actually Daniel Whitehall. I know right!?
In the comics, Daniel Whitehall is a senior member of HYDRA, known as the Kraken.
Unknown to almost everyone he was dying, and Jake Fury found out. He went to Whitehall and pulled the pug on him. Taking his identity, technology, and position in HYDRA.
If this is the case in the MCU then Daniel Whitehall is actually Jacob Fury. This makes total sense to me as we have yet to be given any real clue as to why he was alive in 1946 and is still alive, and young, in 2014. The reason being that it isn't him. It would also be easy for him to conceal his identity as we have seen face cloaking in the movies and show. In Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Black Widow uses this technology towards the end of the film, given to her by Nick Fury. in a deleted scene. It's called a Photostatic Veil.
Another example is when, in Season 2, Episode 4, Whitehall's right hand man, Bakshi, and new convert, Agent 33, use this Veil technology to get the unusual painting and to infiltrate Coulson's team.
Curious that Nick Fury and Whitehall would both have this technology. Unless Whitehall is actually Jake Fury and he is in cohorts with his brother and exchanging tech.
Another very small piece of evidence that I use comes from the scene, in Season 2, Episode 3, when Whitehall and Bakshi are trying to brainwash Agent 33. In the scene Bakshi asks Whitehall, "Where do we start?" Whitehall replies, "At the beginning. Like the song says, a very good place to start."
This is a direct reference to the film, 'The Sound of Music', in which a female protagonist arrives at an Austrian home of a military man, to take care of his children while he is away. He emphasizes the militaristic upbringing of his children and she does not like it. She then convinces the children, through the song 'Do Re Mi' that they need to not be like this, to be children, and have fun. It's effectively a statement about not allowing yourself to be brainwashed by other people. I thought it was rather curious that Whitehall would reference material about not allowing yourself to be brainwashed, while actively trying to brainwash someone. Unless, he doesn't agree with what he is doing and is deliberately referencing this material to emphasis his displeasure in having to do it, because he's Jake Fury. Even in the above screen shot, he looks like he is looking directly at the viewers and saying, "What I am saying is important."
So, tell me what you think. I'd love some input as to whether my theories are sound or not.
